A venerable name and persona in yachting has joined Italy-based Wider Yachts as its honorary president. He’s Norberto Ferretti, who co-founded Ferretti Yachts more than five decades ago. He went on to create the Ferretti Group of yacht and superyacht brands as well.
Marcello Maggi (pictured at left), the president of Wider and the head of the holding company behind it, actually worked with Norberto Ferretti (right) many years ago. As the sales and marketing manager for CRN in the late 1980s, Maggi helped smooth its transition to the Ferretti Group’s ownership in 1999. Norberto Ferretti, meanwhile, sold his majority ownership stake in the Ferretti Group in the mid-1990s, remaining as chairman through the early part of the next decade.
“I am very happy that our paths cross again,” Maggi says. “Norberto’s know-how in product development is invaluable, and his authoritative presence confirms the relevance of the Wider brand, which I have firmly focused on, within the international yachting market.”
“What fascinates me most about Wider is its pioneering side,” Norberto Ferretti says. “Here, tomorrow is not considered an uncertainty, but a starting point.” He further says that the relaunch of Wider under Maggi and the board of directors in recent years “is truly stimulating.”
That relaunch includes the successful WiderCat 92 yacht series, which has sold several hulls before even premiering in the water. Hull number one of the hybrid-powered superyacht series debuts in 2024. Additionally, the relaunch includes a brand-new shipyard, currently in build in Fano, Italy.
Norberto Ferretti specifically will work with Maggi within Wider’s Product Development Committee to create future designs. Furthermore, he’ll support Maggi in growth strategies overall. “I am ready to contribute to shaping the products and technologies of the shipyard’s future,” he comments.
