If you’ve visited a megayacht shipyard, surely you have marveled at the dimensions of some of the construction sheds. Surely, too, you have seen some pretty impressive projects in build, and even close to launch. Historically, these are experiences reserved for clients and their representatives, along with industry professionals. IYC and The Italian Sea Group, which it represents for American buyers and owners, want to make them more accessible. Therefore, this “Inside the Shed” video is akin to joining the teams on tours of two of the superyachts the companies jointly have in development together.
Michel Cryssicopoulos and Matt Stone, two key members of IYC, visit with Giovanni Constantino, the yard’s CEO, and Vittorio Blengini, its sales director. Before they even get to the construction sheds, though, you’ll notice them meeting up in what appears to be an art gallery. Our editor, Diane M. Byrne, was struck by this, too, during her Shipyard Spotlight visit in 2015. The reception area at The Italian Sea Group intends to provide customers with a complete luxury experience, not what typically you’d encounter.
Although IYC currently is overseeing seven superyacht construction projects at The Italian Sea Group, just one is in this video. When you realize which one she is, though, the time makes sense. Firstly, you see Project Metamorphosis. She’s the initial hull in the Admiral 72 series, a 236-footer (72-meter). Arguably, you know her better as Giorgio Armani’s yacht, since the renowned fashioned designer is responsible for styling and interiors. She has an impressive volume of 1,950 gross tons, which you can appreciate thanks to creative video editing. IYC combines real-life footage of various areas in build with what the same areas will look like when finished. IYC will have her in its charter fleet when complete, too.
Finally, you see the aptly named Trophy Room, an area of the shipyard with large scale models of superyachts. They represent yachts under construction, including ones for Americans, as well as yachts already in the water. They cross all of The Italian Sea Group brands, too: Admiral, Tecnomar, Picchiotti, and Perini Navi.
