MarineMax is making a big push into megayacht territory. The well-known recreational boating and yachting retailer is opening a yacht-management, crew-placement, and charter division. And, it’s tapped megayacht-industry veteran Bob Saxon (pictured, at right) to head it.
Chuck Cashman (pictured, at left), MarineMax’s executive vice president of sales, marketing, and manufacturer relations, says that the company has been looking to create and fill such a role for a while. Some of the new-build brands it represents are Azimut, Ocean Alexander, and Hatteras. Furthermore, it has listings for megayachts from Horizon, Benetti, Sunseeker, and others. In combination with MarineMax customers buying megayachts for the first time, these situations present good opportunities for the company.
Saxon’s experience in megayachts is extensive. A recipient of the International Superyacht Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award, he has worked with a reported 3,000 owners since the 1980s. He was president of The Sacks Group from the mid- to late 1980s, then headed Bob Saxon Associates to provide yacht management and charter services. He sold the business to Camper & Nicholsons in 2004, heading that firm’s U.S. operations in the process. Saxon later served as president of International Yacht Collection until it merged with Cape4 Yachting in 2015.
The new megayacht division will be at the MarineMax Yacht Center in Pompano Beach, Florida.
