Interviewing world leaders and some of the highest-profile celebrities is an extraordinary opportunity. So, too, are touring some of the world’s largest yachts and getting behind-the-scenes access to major events. Although our editor has experienced all of this, a recent trip to Costa Rica provided a front-row seat to history. It saw the forging of a strategic agreement between the International SeaKeepers Society and Marina Bahia Golfito.
At the invitation of SeaKeepers’ board of directors, Diane M. Byrne traveled to the marina in February. As guests of Marina Bahia Golfito and its parent company, the Enjoy Group, they had an immersive experience in habitat protections and conservation efforts in southern Costa Rica. This laid the foundations for a collaboration (below) that will further ocean research, biodiversity preservation, and more tremendous promise.
See video of the historic moment the partnership was cemented, and learn more in the March edition of the Megayacht News newsletter. Sent on a subscriber-only basis to more than 1,500 people, it contains information that we don’t feature here on the daily updated website.
For instance, you’ll learn about a limited-edition, made-to-order cleat from the renowned superyacht designer Christian Grande (top). Yes, you read that correctly: He’s designed deck hardware. In fact, the cleat is an updated, and more upscale, version of a cleat he created 15 years ago. That hardware still adorns the decks of plenty of yachts and megayachs worldwide, too.
Furthermore, you’ll learn about a hydrogen “fueling” pontoon at the Monaco Yacht Club, going into use in the coming weeks. We also reveal the new shipyard for Sirena Superyachts, and the latest construction updates on the upcoming Westport 117.
